Rob Milton, WCCS Funding Programs Developer, greets Safeway customers to inform them of the food drive which Safeway is sponsoring. Safeway has dedicated the month of June to the “Bag Summer Hunger” drive. It will provide food for programs managed by West County Community Services.
WCCS manages weekly lunches in Occidental, Forestville, and Guerneville. In Guerneville the food is offered in lunches at the Empowerment Center and the Senior Center? In Forestville at the Methodist Church and in Occidental at St. Philips.
Joy Hayenga, Floor Director at the Guerneville Safeway, reported that 300 $10 dollar bags of food had already been purchased this month and will be donated to WCCS. Customers take a $10 ticket, give it to the cashier, and the $10 donation is included in their grocery purchase. “Our goal is 500 bags,” Joy says. “We really want to help locally.”
She has set up an attractive display on the counter at the front of the store, with fliers, posters, and a display of the food that a bag will provide.
Joy is also looking for part-time help at the store: 16 hours a week, 4 hours a day. Starting pay at a little above $10/hour. Very much needing reliable help.
