A modern, commercial teaching kitchen will soon be under construction at the Russian River Senior Center as WCCS has raised $102,000 of its $110,00 project goal .
We want to thank for their generous support: Wine Country Weekend, The Bethlehem Foundation, Celebrate Community, Jonas Family Foundation, and the many local West County donors who have given us this valued endorsement of the work we are doing.
In replacing the current, aging kitchen, the new facility will serve a triple purpose: providing more and better meals for the region’s seniors; serve as a platform for Project Nourish, a new 6-week culinary training and job placement program for local youth; and provide inter-generational learning opportunities as seniors teach youth cooking and food preservation skills while supported by a professional chef.
¨ Our youth need jobs and job training.
¨ Our hotels and restaurants need skilled workers.
¨ Inter-generational learning decreases social isolation and builds mutual respect
¨ and understanding.
Project Nourish is our next step in building a stronger, more vibrant and connected community.
